In accordance with the Tourism Regulatory Authority Regulations, the Authority, in collaboration with Standardization and Classification Committee and other relevant agencies, shall develop Minimum Standards for regulated tourism enterprises.

TRA will periodically be undertaking National classification of all regulated tourism activities and services with the aim of ensuring high standards and quality of services. The classification exercises will be overseen by a Standardization and Classification Committee comprising members from both the public and private sectors. This will be based on approved criteria for each category of establishments. TRA is mandated by the Tourism Act to formulate Guidelines and prescribe measures for Sustainable Tourism throughout the country. In this connection, TRA is in the process of formulating guidelines for development of Tourism Area Plans. As stipulated by the TRA regulations, compliance with relevant Tourism or Area Development Plans will be a key consideration in the license application process.

TRA is charged with the responsibility of developing and regulating, in consultation with the Ministry for the time being responsible for matters relating to Education, Tourism and Hospitality curricula, Examination and Certification. In addition, TRA shall register all training institutions and professionals working in the tourism sector  towards sector workforce development and improvement of quality of service.
